GLENDALE : Sports Auction to Raise Funds for Hospital
A Nolan Ryan-autographed baseball card valued at $1,600. Auto racer Mario Andretti’s photo and an autographed checkered flag worth $300. A Magic Johnson-autographed basketball worth $299.
Those are among the donated sports memorabilia that will be up for auction as part of a Sunday fund-raiser sponsored by a volunteer support group for Glendale Adventist Medical Center.
“We hope to raise $100,000. That’s our goal,” said Beth Powis, the hospital’s communications manager. “We’re expecting 400 people at the event.”
Powis said proceeds will go toward new and updated equipment for the medical center’s surgery rooms.
Written bids for the 48 sports items will be taken Sunday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at a luncheon at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel in Pasadena. Bids before the auction can also be sent by mail or faxed to the hospital by Friday at 4 p.m.
Bidders are not required to attend the auction, and participants may submit as many written offers as they want, Powis said.
Former Lakers forward Michael Cooper is also scheduled to attend the luncheon, Powis said. Six prizes will be given away in a drawing.
