SIMI VALLEY : Applications for Youth Council Due

Simi Valley teen-agers who want to serve one-year terms on the city’s Youth Council, beginning Nov. 1, must submit their applications by 5 p.m. today, ()city officials said.

The Youth Council, which advises the City Council on issues concerning young people in the community, has 21 members and three alternates. Each local high school and junior high school is represented; the remaining members are chosen at large.

The Youth Council meets for about one hour on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the community room at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road. The meetings are open to the public, and young residents are encouraged to attend.

Each month, one Youth Council member attends a City Council meeting to report on the advisory panel’s work.

To serve on the Youth Council, an applicant must be a Simi Valley resident, age 13 to 19. Applications can be obtained at City Hall, the city’s Development Services Building, the Simi Valley Library and at local high schools and junior high schools.

The forms must be turned in at the Development Services Building, 3855-A Alamo St. The new Youth Council members will be selected by the City Council.
