BOARDER TOWN: After appeals by youthful constituents, Camarillo officials decided against a crackdown on skateboarding in commercial districts (B1). . . . Mayor Charlotte Craven offered a theory on why the council was receptive to the kids’ appeal: Four members are teachers or former teachers. The fifth councilman, Mike Morgan, said he was a skateboarder himself until recently. . . . ‘Boarders are banned from Ojai sidewalks, and Ventura has banished them from a mid-town shopping center.

FASHION STATEMENT: The soda bottle you recycled last year may become the sweater you wear this fall. A pullover in Patagonia’s new catalogue is 80% polyester made from recycled plastic bottles. “It’s stuff we were drinking out of just a few months ago,” said Mike Harrelson, spokesman for the Ventura-based clothing maker. . . . Until the new fabric was perfected, soft-drink bottles were mainly recycled into carpets and sleeping-bag insulation. Drawback: Soda bottles give the fabric a light-green hue, so the $85 sweaters come only in dark shades. . . . Number of two-liter bottles needed per sweater: 25.

NEW ROLES: With tonight’s debut of “Family Album,” Peter Scolari’s new CBS sitcom (F1), Ojai will have two residents on network series. The other is Scott Bakula, who landed a role on “Murphy Brown” after “Quantum Leap” was canceled. . . . Scolari played yuppie Michael Harris on “Newhart” and Tom Hanks’ cross-dressing roommate in “Bosom Buddies.” He moved his family to Ojai three years ago after a robbery near their home in Westwood.

POLO MATCH: Last year, Moorpark College became the first junior college in the nation to field a men’s and women’s polo team. . . . The women’s team did better: They went to regional competition last spring, and on Saturday they’ll play the men’s team from USC at the Moorpark Polo Club. . . . Stormie Hale of Moorpark will be happy no matter what the outcome. She coaches both teams.
