CANOGA PARK : 9 Arrested in Sting of Phony I.D. Ring
After purchasing phony driver’s licenses in the names of Gov. Pete Wilson and City Councilwoman Laura Chick, a task force of law enforcement agents arrested nine people and seized hundreds of phony documents from a Canoga Park apartment Friday, authorities said.
The suspects made counterfeit California driver’s licenses, Social Security cards, automobile ownership papers and various immigration documents, Los Angeles police Detective Bob Graybill said.
Police were tipped after several merchants complained to police and to Chick’s office that they had unwittingly cashed stolen checks after counterfeit driver’s licenses were presented for identification, Graybill said.
