Jesse M. Davis left behind a legacy of more than 30 years of service to the community.

“He was very dedicated, and he liked helping people. He was just interested in the community,” said Davis’ widow, Doris.

In recognition of his outstanding commitment to the city and his support of community organizations, Davis will be honored today in the 10th annual Memorial Grove ceremony.

The noon ceremony, which will be held at Boisseranc Park, will pay tribute to the late community leader. A tree will be planted in Davis’ honor, and his name will be added to a monument at the park.

“The whole family feels honored,” said Doris Davis, 71.

A grove at the southwest corner of the park, dedicated by the City Council in April, 1983, honors residents who gave exceptional service to the community. Davis will be the 12th honoree.

Jesse Davis, who was a general contractor and father of three sons, served on the Planning Commission and later the City Council. He served on the council for 21 years until his death in July, 1985.

He was known to remark: “The most important thing we have is wonderful people.”

Doris Davis said she and her husband moved to the city in 1947. It didn’t take long before her husband became involved in civic activities, she said.

Jesse Davis was the founding president of the Buena Park Historical Society and was active in many community organizations from the PTA to programs that helped the elderly.

He was involved in the annual Silverado Days festival and was active in the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Boys & Girls Club and American Legion, among others. He was also a supporter of the Seniors Club, Meals on Wheels and the local community chorus.

Boisseranc Park is at 7520 Dale Ave.
