HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Watkins’ Sharp Passing Lifts Simi Valley, 28-18

Led by quarterback Jeremie Watkins, Simi Valley High shot holes in San Diego Serra en route to a 28-18 intersectional victory Saturday night at Simi Valley.

Watkins completed 20 of 36 passes for 277 yards and four touchdowns but also threw four interceptions.

Watkins, the area’s third-leading passer, had three touchdown passes by halftime as Simi Valley (2-1) built a 21-6 lead.

The quarterback added a fourth scoring toss in the third period, firing a 19-yard pass to J.J. Washington (five catches, 79 yards).

Simi Valley running back Chris Azzinaro, filling in for the injured Jevon Markarian (stitches in leg), rushed for 89 yards in five carries.

Watkins completed a 14-yard slant pass to Nathan Simmons for a touchdown late in the first period, and Tim Wolleck’s kick gave Simi Valley the lead for good, 7-6.

Watkins added scoring passes of nine yards to Matt Fuller and 52 yards to Paul Boerem (five catches, 116 yards) in the second period.
