LONG BEACH : Break-In, Assault Is 4th Targeting Elderly Women
A residential break-in and assault over the weekend was the fourth recently targeting elderly women in North Long Beach and authorities believe the same man is responsible, police said Monday.
Two of the women were sexually assaulted this month in their homes and the others--one a 90-year-old who is bedridden--were robbed, Long Beach Police Detective Richard Birdsall said. In all four break-ins, including the most recent on Saturday, the attacker bound and blindfolded the women.
“That’s how we know it’s the same guy,” Birdsall said. “It’s beyond me. It’s so depraved.”
The youngest of the women robbed since Sept. 8 is 77, police said in advising senior citizens in the area to keep doors and windows locked. “We realize it’s hot out there but it appears that entry is through open windows and doors,” Sgt. Diana Walton said.
Police described the suspect as a black man in his mid- to late 20s who may be driving a dark-colored, mid-size or large car with no parking lights.
