LOS ANGELES : Snoop Doggy Dogg Pleads Innocent in Fatal Shooting

Share

Rap performer Snoop Doggy Dogg and two co-defendants pleaded innocent Friday to murder charges in the shooting death of a reputed gang member in August.

The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was charged with murder last month after the incident in which his bodyguard allegedly shot 22-year-old Phillip Waldemariam during a confrontation in Woodbine Park. Broadus was arrested hours after appearing at the MTV Music Video Awards Sept. 7.

Broadus’ attorney, David Kenner, alleged Friday that Waldemariam stalked and threatened the 21-year-old entertainer for several months before the Aug. 25 shooting.

“Snoop never laid eyes on this guy before he pulled a gun on him in a gas station” three months before the killing, Kenner said after Friday’s arraignment.

Broadus remains free on $1 million bond. His bodyguard, McKinley Lee, 23, who also pleaded not guilty to murder charges, remains in jail on a no-bail hold.

Sean Smith, 23, who was a passenger in the Jeep driven by Broadus, remained free on $200,000 bail.

On Friday, a new count was filed charged Broadus with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
