Coastal Cleanup Volunteers Needed

Share

A coastal cleanup will be held on beaches, roads, waterways and marshes throughout the county today starting at 9 a.m. as part of a nationwide effort against pollution.

Most cities along the coast have activities planned.

Doheny State Beach is sponsoring a bird walk at 8 a.m. in which the public can stroll along the shore and feed the birds.

In Huntington Beach, volunteers can sign up for the beach cleaning at a table in the beach parking lot at Pacific Coast Highway and Beach Boulevard.

They will be given trash bags and be assigned an area of the beach. Pick sticks and gloves are available.

All trash and recyclables will be brought to a central location where data sheets will be completed on what materials have been collected.

Other participating cities will do the same, and the data will be forwarded to the California Coastal Commission.

Last year, more than 40,000 volunteers picked up about 380,000 pounds of litter throughout California.
