Donnelly Agrees to Two-Year Deal

Share

The Kings took another step toward completion of contract negotiations when they reached a two-year agreement with left wing Mike Donnelly.

Donnelly, 29, scored 29 goals and had 69 points last season, his best since coming to the Kings in October of 1990 from the Buffalo Sabres in the Mikko Makela deal.

As was the case with linemate Tony Granato earlier this week, the agreement is in principle and the contract has not yet been signed. This would have been Donnelly’s option year and he was scheduled to make $310,000. The new deal--a year, plus an option--will pay him a base salary of about $650,000 this season and could reach $700,000 next season, contingent on bonuses.

King Notes

Left wing Luc Robitaille, who has a lower back strain, is scheduled to play in the team’s final exhibition tonight against the New York Islanders at the Forum. Goaltender Kelly Hrudey, who has looked impressive in his two exhibition appearances, is expected to start. . . . Defenseman Brent Thompson, who had off-season abdominal surgery, has resumed skating.
