Solis’ College Aid Bill Signed Into Law

Gov. Pete Wilson has signed Assemblywoman Hilda L. Solis’ first bill into law.

The measure, AB 453, saves a program that provides assistance to minority and low-income students attending college. The California Student Opportunity and Access Program, which had a budget of $600,000, would have been eliminated June 30, 1994.

“The students of this state have won a major triumph with the enactment of this bill,” said Solis (D-El Monte).

She said she is pleased the governor recognized the importance of the program, which provides tutoring, academic advice, financial aid and other help for students.
