Texas A&M; Gets Defensive Against Texas Tech, 31-6

LUBBOCK, Tex. — Rodney Thomas rushed for 108 yards and scored two touchdowns as No. 14 Texas A&M; defeated Texas Tech, 31-6, in a Southwest Conference game Saturday.
Texas A&M; (3-1, 1-0 in the SWC), which was idle last week, gained 405 yards and limited Texas Tech to 169.
Texas Tech (1-4, 0-2) took a 6-0 lead on field goals of 50 and 32 yards by Jon Davis.
“For the defense to hold them without a touchdown is excellent,” Texas A&M; Coach R.C. Slocum said. “This is probably the best performance we have had all year.”
Texas A&M; went ahead, 10-6, with 91 seconds left in the first half when Gene Lowery caught a short pass from Corey Pullig and ran 20 yards into the end zone.
Thomas scored twice on one-yard runs in the third quarter as the Aggies began to pull away.
Pullig, who completed 14 of 27 passes for 193 yards, hooked up with Leeland McElroy on a 36-yard touchdown pass play to make the score 31-6.
