JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Pierce Throttles Ventura for 2nd Shutout in a Row

Pierce College put aside thoughts of its violent brawl last week at Harbor College long enough to stifle Ventura, 24-0, Saturday night in a Western State Conference game at Ventura High.

Pierce Coach Bill Norton’s pregame concerns about his defense proved unwarranted as the Brahmas (2-1, 2-0 in conference play) posted their second consecutive shutout.

“Sometimes when you tell a kid you can’t do something on defense, it takes the aggressiveness out of him,” Norton said.

“I was afraid that could have happened tonight.”

Pierce forced four fumbles to dispel any thought that the Brahmas would not be aggressive.

Quarterback Davis Delmatoff tossed touchdown passes of 32 and 13 yards to Jibri Hodge and scored on a one-yard sneak to pace Pierce’s offense.

Pierce converted the first two turnovers into 10 first-quarter points.

Doug Sidwell connected on a 35-yard field goal and Delmatoff hit Hodge with the 32-yard touchdown pass late in the quarter. Delmatoff completed nine of 19 passes for 129 yards.

Ventura (0-3, 0-2), which was shut out for the third time this season and has yet to score, was limited to 57 yards of total offense.
