Pediatrician to Head County Public Health
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday officially named a 51-year-old pediatrician as the county’s top physician.
The supervisors voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Gary Feldman, a Ventura pediatrician for 17 years, as health officer for the Ventura County Health Care Agency beginning Sunday.
Feldman will lead the 235-employee Public Health Department, which is responsible for responding to outbreaks of serious illnesses and providing medical care to low-income families. He replaces Lawrence Dodds, who resigned in July.
Feldman received his medical degree from Stanford University, but also holds a degree in mathematics from MIT and a master’s degree in computer science from Stanford.
He has been active in programs dealing with AIDS, child abuse, maternal and children’s health.
