Problems caused by a new automated garbage collection system in Burbank have forced the city to reshuffle the street sweeping schedule and alternate side-of-the-street parking.
The days for street sweeping are being changed because under the new system--now in use in one-third of the city--garbage cans are being left in the streets.
That makes it difficult to clean the roadway, said Burbank Public Works Director Ora Lampman.
Signs indicating new days and times for street sweeping will be posted by the end of the year, Lampman said.
City officials have been working on a solution to the problem since mid-summer after residents complained that their streets were not getting cleaned.
The city began using automated trash pickup in April and plans to phase it in over the next two years.
