Share

A Washington State police officer nationally known as an expert on school safety will speak Wednesday at the Irvine High School Little Theater.

Jesus Villahermosa, a deputy sheriff, will discuss weapons, television violence and national trends in campus safety at the 7:30 p.m. talk.

The Irvine Unified School District recently allocated funds for security guards at its middle schools and high schools.

“We’ve seen that Irvine is not immune to violence in our schools,” said Robert Bruce, principal of Venado Middle School. “We need to protect our students. At the same time, we need to understand the causes of the problems that lead to conflict so that we can concentrate our funding on education instead of security.”

Free tickets to the event, which is sponsored by the Venado Parent-Teachers Assn., are available at Venado, 4 Deerfield Ave, Irvine. For more information, call (714) 552-4771.
