SPORTSCOPE : Two WCC Road Matches Await No. 23 Loyola

The 23rd-ranked Loyola Marymount women’s volleyball team begins a two-match West Coast Conference trip tonight.

The Lions (12-4, 2-0 in the WCC), who have won nine of 11 matches, will play San Francisco (6-11, 1-1) tonight at 7 and Santa Clara (10-5, 1-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Freshman outside hitter Suzanne Radcliffe leads the Lions with 158 kills and 25 aces. The Torrance High graduate ranks second to junior setter Robin Ortgiesen with 53 assists.

Ortgiesen, a Mira Costa graduate, leads the team with 136 digs and freshman outside hitter Kim Blankinship, a Torrance graduate, has 132.

Sophomore middle blockers Mardell Wrensch and Julie Greer each have 151 kills.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills men’s and women’s soccer teams will play a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. doubleheader today at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

The men, ranked 20th in NCAA Division II, will play the Mustangs at 5 p.m. The women, ranked sixth, will play San Luis Obispo, ranked 14th, at 7 p.m.

The Toro men (5-3-1, 1-1-1 in league) were defeated by Cal Poly Pomona, 2-1, on Wednesday. The women (7-4, 1-1) also lost to the Broncos, 2-1, in overtime on Wednesday.

The Dominguez Hills women’s volleyball team will play host to Cal Poly Pomona in a CCAA opener tonight at 7:30.

The Toros (8-11) have won five of six matches. Freshman middle blocker Iyesha Sands, a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, leads the Toros with a .232 attack percentage.

The Manhattan Beach Youth Basketball Assn. will have registration for boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jocelyn Center on 15th Street and Valley Drive in Manhattan Beach.

The Tracy Austin pro-celebrity charity tennis tournament will be staged Oct. 23 at the West End Racquet and Health Club in Torrance.
