Quarterback Travis Anderson ran for two touchdowns and threw for one as Marina held off host Westminster, 23-19, in a Sunset League game.

Anderson, a senior, hit receiver Joe Borzoni with a 31-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and then added fourth-quarter scoring runs of seven and two yards.

The Vikings took their biggest lead (23-13) with 6 minutes 48 seconds remaining in the game on the final scoring run from Anderson.

The Lions (0-5, 0-2) narrowed the deficit to 23-19 with just 1:24 to play on a 39-yard scoring pass from Jerry Allison to Charlie Camarena, but a failed two-point conversion attempt and Marina’s subsequent recovery of Westminster’s on-side kick ended Lion hopes.

Allison finished with a game-high 151 yards passing, completing eight of 18 attempts. The Lion quarterback also rushed for 73 yards in 11 carries.

Marina (3-2, 2-0) was led by Anderson, who had 72 yards in 20 carries, most of them coming on option-play keepers.

“Anderson did a great job for us tonight,” Marina Coach Dave Thompson said. “He has the option to give the ball to the fullback or keep it, and he ended up keeping it a lot tonight.”.

Quan Nguyen carried 17 times for a game-high 91 yards for the Lions.
