A Little Offense Goes Long Way for Sunny Hills

Despite holding the ball for less than 18 minutes, Sunny Hills was dominant in a 20-7 nonleague victory over Mira Loma Jurupa Valley Friday at Buena Park High School.

The Lancers scored the first and last times they had the ball in the first half to lead, 14-0, at the break. Craig Borsari scored on a 59-yard run about two minutes into the game.

Sunny Hills’ second touchdown came with 15 seconds left in the sedond quarter. Peter Rodriguez caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Brad Knyal.

Jurupa Valley (1-4) cut the lead in half with a third-quarter touchdown. Fullback Bryan Worthington scored on an 18-yard run with 7:10 left.

But Sunny Hills used a pair of field goals and a determined defense to put the game away.

Sean Pelphrey kicked a 20-yard field goal with 2:05 left in the third quarter and added a 45-yarder with 1:20 left.

Sunny Hills’ defense was on the field for just more than 30 minutes and allowed 327 yards in total offense but only one score.

Henry Naliielua led Sunny Hills in rushing with 95 yards in 11 carries.
