BIG EIGHT ROUNDUP : Colorado Back on Track; Kansas State Still Unbeaten

Lamont Warren rushed for 137 yards and scored two touchdowns as No. 20 Colorado ended a two-game losing streak with a 30-18 victory over Missouri Saturday at Boulder, Colo.

The Buffaloes (3-2) opened their Big Eight campaign by scoring on five straight possessions en route to a 27-3 lead midway through the third quarter.

Colorado plays a key conference game against Oklahoma in Norman next Saturday.

Missouri (1-3-1), suffering its ninth straight loss to Colorado and 13th straight roadsetback, got two fourth-quarter touchdown passes from Jeff Handy to make the outcome respectable.

Colorado held Missouri to 103 total yards in the first half and allowed the Tigers just 41 yards rushing in 24 carries for the game.

Led by Warren and Rashaan Salaam, who had for 89 yards rushing, the Buffaloes ran the ball with authority, getting 343 yards.

Kansas State 10, Kansas 9-- Andre Coleman caught a 19-yard scoring pass in the first quarter for the game’s only touchdown as the unbeaten Wildcats slipped past the Jawhawks at Manhattan, Kan.

Tate Wright kicked a career-best 50-yard field goal in the first quarter for Kansas State (5-0), which tied an 83-year-old record with its 10th straight home win.

The 5-0 start is the Wildcats’ first since 1931.

The standing room-only crowd of 44,165 toppled the previous Kansas State record of 43,576 set in the 1974 game against Kansas.

Kansas (2-4) got three field goals from Dan Eichloff. His 24-yarder with 8:14 left in the third quarter made it 10-9, but the Jayhawks never got close to scoring again.
