SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Too little too late was the theme Friday night at Ventura Raceway as three drivers, long out of the running for track championships, won main events.

Ron Bartels of Hawthorne, who has been in a distant third place, won the 20-lap Street Stock main event by holding off points leader Paul Moore of Oak View. Moore, bidding for his fifth track championship, leads James Weston of Santa Barbara by more than 100 points.

Mike Campbell of Ventura held off points leader Scott Boucher of Oak View to win the Pony Stock main event. Campbell, eighth in the points standings, also won a heat race. Boucher holds a 55-point lead over Mira Cook of Camarillo in the race to clinch the first Pony Stock championship at Ventura.
