COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : ACROSS THE NATION
In the wake of the Miami’s first regular-season defeat in three years, Hurricane Coach Dennis Erickson said he might change quarterbacks.
Frank Costa went the distance in Miami’s 28-10 loss to Florida State. But sophomore Ryan Collins will get an opportunity in practice to win the starting job for the Hurricanes’ next game, Oct. 23 against Syracuse.
“I’m not sure we’re going to make a change,” Erickson said. “We’re going to give Ryan a chance to work with the first team and see where we’re at.”
Notre Dame quarterback Kevin McDougal, who committed three turnovers during a 44-0 rout of Pittsburgh, might have put his job in jeopardy because he said he has trouble focusing when the Fighting Irish are heavy favorites.
“Anybody that says they have trouble focusing on an opponent needs to find another school or another sport,” Notre Dame Coach Lou Holtz said. “It’s as simple as that. There’s no excuse for not focusing.”
