PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : That Youthful Enthusiasm Is Back

Share

Rookie receiver James Jett has shown he has the speed to elude the bump-and-run.

The run-and-bump, however, is another matter.

After Jett had caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Vince Evans on Sunday against the New York Jets, fellow rookie and roommate Rocket Ismail charged up to Jett in the end zone and, in his excitement, bumped Jett with his body while shouting encouragement in Jett’s ear.

Ismail couldn’t have been more excited if he had caught the ball.

Receiver Alexander Wright was another of those coming over to offer congratulations.

“Hey, that’s good,” Jett told Wright. “Now, you go get you one.”

And Wright did, later catching a 68-yard scoring pass.

“The young guys have (brought) new energy and new enthusiasm,” Coach Art Shell said.

“All they want to do is play. When their name is called, they want to get in there and make a contribution. That spreads throughout your football team. The young guys have added to what we have and the old guys are reinvigorated. I think it’s a wonderful thing.”

After giving up 12 sacks over the previous two games, the Raiders did not give up a sack against the Jets. The last time the Raiders went a game without giving up a sack was in December of 1991 against the San Diego Chargers.
