SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Assistance League of Santa Clarita is looking for some help of its own with a four-day horse show that organizers hope will raise $10,000 to $20,000 for the charitable agency.

Proceeds from the sale of food, programs and T-shirts at the fifth annual Camelot Classic Horse Show, which begins today, will go to the group.

The Assistance League of Santa Clarita operates three primary programs in the city: providing new clothing to needy elementary schoolchildren, giving teddy bears to the sheriff’s and fire departments to comfort children during emergencies, and organizing activities for the Santa Clarita Convalescent Hospital.

“We have put on over 1,000 pairs of new shoes on children in Santa Clarita,” said Susan Beesley, a charter member. “We try to go into areas where other groups haven’t.”

This is the first time that the league has worked with Camelot Riding Club’s annual event.

“We have several of our members who are riders, and their daughters participate in horse shows all over the San Fernando Valley,” Beesley said of the cooperative effort.

There is no admission for the show, which will include a jumping competition. Participants in the horse show must have already placed in prior tournaments to qualify for this event.

The Camelot Classic Horse Show is being held through Sunday at the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center, 11127 Orcas Ave., Lake View Terrace.
