In tribute: Not all officials have been wearing them, but the crew at the Kennedy-Los Amigos game Oct. 7 paid tribute to former official Earl Samuel Engman, who died five months ago of cancer, by wearing a black pin with the initials ESE on it. Engman was an official for more than 40 years and served as president of the Orange County Officials Assn.
“(All officials) are supposed to wear them,” referee Fran Ursine said. “Everybody got one, but some officials are worried about them falling off. (This crew) wears it because Earl was a friend of all of us.”
