Library Book Lists Available 24 Hours

A new computerized library service will allow Ventura County residents to examine book lists for the entire system 24 hours a day, Director of Library Services Dixie Adeniran told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The 15-branch library system houses more than 750,000 volumes, now accessible to anyone with a personal computer and modem, Adeniran said.

“It should cut down on staff requests and help people who can’t spend a lot of time at the library,” Adeniran said.

Recent budget cuts forced county libraries to severely cut back on hours and service.

The computer service, known as DIAL-PAC, will tell users which library owns a particular book and whether the book is on the shelf, Adeniran said.

Residents interested in logging on can contact their local library for more information, Adeniran said.

But, she added, users who encounter computer problems when trying to access the system should not contact library personnel. “They should call their computer company, just like they do with other computer questions.”
