GLENDALE : Charge Filed Over Racial Messages
Prosecutors filed a malicious mischief charge Tuesday against a Glendale man accused of stamping racist messages in notebooks at a supermarket in Covina, officials said.
Allan E. Carlson, 29, is scheduled to appear today for an arraignment on the misdemeanor count at Citrus Municipal Court in West Covina, police said. He has been released on his own recognizance since his Aug. 27 arrest.
If convicted, Carlson could receive up to six months in County Jail or face a fine, or both, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Dennis Ferris, who reviewed the case.
Carlson was arrested after security guards at Lucky Food Center caught him stamping the message “Earth’s most endangered species: the white race, help preserve it” on about 30 notebooks, said Covina Police Lt. Kim Raney.
Although similar messages had been found in notebooks at two other stores in Covina--Thrifty Drug Store and Target--and at K mart stores in Burbank and Sunland, police said they could not connect Carlson with those crimes.
Carlson could not be reached for comment.
