LOS ANGELES AIRPORT : Action Delayed on Limits for Uses of Airport Funds

Share

The House late Wednesday postponed action on a transportation appropriations measure that would penalize states or cities that seek to divert airport revenues for other municipal expenses. Action is expected today, however. Mayor Richard Riordan has sought to use a portion of Los Angeles International Airport revenues to pay for more city police officers. Adding 3,000 more officers was one of his campaign promises.

Some cities have already obtained exemptions to laws prohibiting other uses of federal airport funds. The transportation spending bill would cut off all federal transportation funds, including highway funds, to cities or states that attempt such diversions.
