LOS ANGELES : Council Follows County in Naming Street for Chavez
The Los Angeles City Council gave final approval Friday to renaming an Eastside street for Cesar Chavez, one day after county supervisors similarly honored the late farm workers leader by renaming an even longer stretch of roadway.
The council’s 14-0 vote came without comment or the heated debate seen at earlier hearings on the issue. The name change is for connected sections of Brooklyn Avenue, Macy Street and a segment of Sunset Boulevard, and takes effect March 31, Chavez’s birthday, when they will become Cesar E. Chavez Avenue.
County supervisors approved the name change in a 3-2 vote.
