COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC’s Hutcheon Scores Late to Turn Back Rancho Santiago

Scott Hutcheon scored with about 13 minutes left to give Orange Coast a 2-1 victory over Rancho Santiago in Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer Friday at OCC.

Hutcheon’s goal came off a corner kick by Colin Lidzbarski, who got an assist. Martin Holmqvist scored in the first half for OCC (7-1-5, 2-1-2 in conference). Robert Rodriguez scored for Rancho Santiago (5-8-1, 1-4).

In other Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Irvine Valley 3, Golden West 2--George Larsen scored the winning goal with a minute remaining. Thomas Okokhere scored two goals for host Irvine Valley (11-1-3, 3-0-1). Donny Shockley and Radim Konecny scored first-half goals to give Golden West (6-7, 1-4) a 2-1 lead.

In an Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 4, Orange Coast 0--Lori Van Herk scored twice for host Cypress (14-0-1, 5-0), which won its 17th consecutive conference game over two seasons.

Golden West 2, Palomar 1--Jenni Murray scored with five minutes remaining to give Golden West (3-1-1 in conference) the victory at Palomar (0-4-1).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Cypress 0--Jaimie Torromeo had seven kills for Golden West, the No. 1-ranked team in the state. Golden West (11-0, 5-0) won 15-2, 15-1, 15-2. Cypress is 1-9, 0-5.

Orange Coast 3, Fullerton 0--Anna-Marie Forgan and Beverly Thackerey each had 14 kills, and Heather Ruhl added 42 assists and four aces for Orange Coast (3-6, 2-4), which won, 15-7, 16-14, 17-15.

In pool play of the Cypress water polo tournament:

Golden West 25, San Diego Mesa 3--Corey Delahunt scored six goals and Matt Brown and Steve Wormgoor each added three to lead Golden West (21-1). The Rustlers, the top-ranked team in the state, beat Foothill, 21-2, earlier.

In the Saddleback Gaucho Invitational water polo tournament:

Saddleback 13, College of the Desert 8--Trevor Rodin scored seven goals for Saddleback (8-17), earning Coach Flip Darr his 300th career victory.
