SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Fillmore driver Steve Rowe wasn’t around when the checkered flag was waved at the end of his final race of the season Friday at Ventura Raceway, but Rowe earned his first IMCA championship anyway.

Rowe’s points title was assured before he left the main event with engine trouble. Santa Maria’s Ryan Cole won the 20-lap main event.

Oak View’s Paul Moore earned his third consecutive Street Stock championship. He entered the night with an 85-point lead over Santa Barbara’s James Weston and needed to finish sixth or better in the main event.

But although he fell as far back as eighth place midway through the race, Moore charged back to finish fourth. Weston won.

Oak View’s Scott Boucher, who entered the night with a 115-point lead over Camarillo’s Mira Cook, won the track’s inaugural Pony Stock championship. Boucher did not finish, and Laurie Dickenson won her first Pony main event.

The Mini Stock main event had not been completed when this edition went to press, but the point championship had been decided. Ventura’s Gary Hubert held a lead of more than 400 points.
