Calabasas Phone Service Restored

Share

Telephone service was restored Saturday to about 2,500 Pacific Bell customers after vandals sliced wires inside two inter-connect boxes located about half a mile from each other, company officials said.

Service was restored to the area between 2 and 4 a.m., said Chuck Oswald, a maintenance supervisor in Agoura Hills. Crews labored throughout the day Friday to repair two boxes at Calabasas and Park Granada roads, Oswald said.

The boxes link customers in a given area with underground cables from central switching stations, Oswald explained.

Customers first reported the phone outages about 7 a.m. Friday, Oswald said.

Such incidents are fairly rare, he said, noting that there are thousands of inter-connect boxes on streets throughout Southern California, he said.

Pacific Bell security officials are investigating the vandalism, he said.
