The Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies has won a Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education.

The Westside magnet, on 18th Street near Fairfax Avenue, is the first senior high school in the Los Angeles Unified School District to receive the honor.

The campus will celebrate the award with a reception in the cafeteria at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 4.

The awards program was established to recognize public and private secondary schools across the country that meet local, state and national education standards; further students’ growth in all areas; have overcome serious obstacles; foster sound values and self-esteem; and have strong leadership, teaching and parent involvement.
