A Los Angeles police officer fatally shot a burglary suspect while struggling with the armed man, police said Sunday.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, died instantly after he was shot in the head and neck by Officer Chris Walter, police said.

Walter pursued the man Saturday night after he broke into a used car lot in the 9700 block of South Figueroa Street, stole a Ford Mustang and rammed it through the lot’s wrought-iron fence, police said. The suspect crashed the car at 120th Street and Orchard Avenue and fled into an alley, where Walter tackled him, police said.
