Foreman Promoted to Coach of Los Amigos’ Baseball Team

Disenchanted with the direction of his baseball program, Los Amigos Athletic Director Dave Auxler announced Monday that he has replaced Coach Ron Pruter with Steve Foreman, who assisted Pruter last season.

Pruter had been the baseball coach at Los Amigos for four seasons. His teams never finished better than sixth in the Garden Grove League, compiling a league record of 19-37. Overall, Los Amigos was 25-61 under Pruter.

“Baseball’s the only program we’ve never really been happy with at Los Amigos,” Auxler said. “We’ve never been able to win consistently in baseball. We’re only a couple miles from La Quinta and they always win. There’s been enough talent here, but we’ve never been able to put it together.”

Foreman played at La Mirada High and Brigham Young University and was pitching coach at Pico Rivera El Rancho High, Golden West College and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Auxler said Foreman “knows the game and he really thinks our kids can win. He really believes that. He admits that it may take a couple years to do it. We’re ready for a change.”

Auxler said he hopes Foreman can begin to build a baseball tradition at Los Amigos.

“Over the years, because of our weak baseball program, we’ve probably lost four or five good players to Fountain Valley or Mater Dei,” he said. “ If we get a tradition going, we can stop some of that leakage.”

In the last two years, Auxler has improved the quality of Los Amigos’ field, putting in an outfield fence, a center field scoreboard, a home team’s bullpen and a batting cage.

“I got kind of tired of seeing nothing happen out there,” Auxler said. “Maybe things will change now.”
