Health officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services are strongly recommending that all county residents 60 years of age and older take advantage of free flu shots available through various programs in the area.

Older citizens, who are more likely to become seriously ill and die from the influenza virus, can obtain free vaccinations at special clinics throughout the county until Dec. 10.

Medicare recipients in Northeast Los Angeles and the mid-Wilshire area are eligible for the free shots paid for by the federal health insurance program geared for individuals 65 years of age and older.
