A 20-year-old man’s mysterious death this week has so far left more questions than answers for homicide detectives investigating the case, police said Friday.

Edward Joseph Acevedo of Anaheim died Thursday night at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana from head injuries received in a beating late Tuesday.

Anaheim Police Detective Mike Hidalgo said investigators are still trying to determine why it took more than eight hours for Acevedo’s friends or family to seek medical treatment for the dying man.

“He was taken to the hospital but not right after he was hit,” Hidalgo said. “We are trying to find out why there was a delay. It seems that first he was taken to a home in Santa Ana, then finally to the hospital.”

Details of the beating, which occurred in the 700 block of Orangewood Avenue, are still sketchy, Hidalgo said.

“We are still trying to piece it all together,” he said. “We still have to talk to people who were with him and who took him to the hospital.”
