Notre Dame High took sole possession of first place in the Mission League by defeating St. Bernard, 48-14, Friday night at St. Bernard.
St. Bernard (4-4, 2-1 in league play) scored on its first and last drives but Notre Dame (6-2, 3-0) dominated everything in between.
Notre Dame capitalized on two Viking turnovers in the second quarter to score 14 points. Joey Orlando caused St. Bernard running back Carlos Meeks to fumble at the Viking 45. Three plays later, John Garcia (15 carries, 104 yards) ran 24 yards for a score and a 13-6 Notre Dame lead.
Later in the quarter, Notre Dame’s David Dupetit blocked and recovered a punt, setting up Lei Malieitulua’s five-yard touchdown run, which gave the Knights a 27-6 halftime lead.
Malieitulua finished with 90 yards and three touchdowns in 12 carries and sophomore Alvin Arzu rushed eight times for 78 yards and a touchdown.
