Arizona Assistant Is a Victim of Fires

Johnny Lynn, an assistant football coach at Arizona, came home to burned-out wreckage Friday in his return to Pasadena with the Wildcats, a victim of fires that raged through the Sierra Madre area.

Lynn, a Pasadena native who attended Muir High and UCLA, owned a ranch-style home in Kennola Estates in which he grew up and had rented it since 1987.

“Thank God nobody was hurt,” said Lynn, who coaches the defensive secondary with the Wildcats and is the team’s academic liaison. “Nothing was lost but material stuff.”

The tenants had only five minutes’ notice to vacate the home, Lynn said, adding that it was insured and that he intends to rebuild.

Lynn is in his seventh season with Arizona. He played professionally with the New York Jets.

Arizona plays UCLA at the Rose Bowl tonight.
