On Race Relations

Share

* The L.A. Times Poll “How O.C. Views Race Relations” (Oct. 24) was very informative. However, many aspects cannot be expressed by the statistical numbers.

One who is discriminated against will feel the whole population is discriminating against him, just as one who is not discriminated against might feel the whole population to be OK. This poll was addressed only to the adults but the different age groups might feel differently about the questions asked. Discrimination in schools may be hidden from the public because of embarrassment or fear. Unreported cases or subtle discrimination are not represented in the statistics. The perceptions and feelings of the people about discrimination is more important and determines how they interact with others.
