Lakers Lose Last Exhibition to Knicks, 93-77
Patrick Ewing scored 25 points as the New York Knicks beat the Lakers, 93-77, in an exhibition before 13,091 at the ThunderDome.
Ewing scored nine points during an 11-2 run midway through the fourth quarter that enabled New York to pull away for its seventh victory in eight exhibition games. The Lakers, who split their eight exhibition games, open the season at home Friday against Phoenix.
The Knicks, who open Friday at Boston, had a nine-point lead late in the first quarter, but the shooting of rookie guard Nick Van Exel and veteran Sedale Threatt pulled the Lakers even midway through the second. The Knicks led, 49-46, at halftime, with Ewing providing 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Van Exel had 14 of his 19 points in the first half.
Laker forward Elden Campbell sprained his left ankle early in the first quarter and did not return.
