Clippers Put Overweight Williams on Suspended List; No Return Set

Share

Clipper forward John Williams, who is in a weight-loss clinic, will be placed on the suspended list, Clipper General Manager Elgin Baylor said.

The Clippers had the option of placing Williams on the injured list or the suspended list, but if he had been put on the injured list he would have had to sit out a minimum of five games. Although teams have the option of paying players on the suspended list, Baylor didn’t indicate whether the Clippers will pay Williams. There is no projected date for Williams’ return.

The Washington Bullets suspended Williams for the entire 1991-92 season after the 6-foot-9 forward ballooned to more than 300 pounds after undergoing knee surgery. Williams was traded to the Clippers for center William Bedford and the draft rights to former UCLA forward Don MacLean last year.
