THOUSAND OAKS : Charities to Sell Plaza Mementos

Nonprofit organizations in the Conejo Valley will be allowed to sell official memorabilia marking next year’s grand opening in Thousand Oaks of the Civic Arts Plaza and the city’s 30th birthday.

The city is allowing charities and other nonprofit groups to peddle souvenirs as a fund-raising mechanism, said Tom Mitze, executive director of the Civic Auditorium and Forum Theater.

Now under construction, the Civic Arts Plaza on the former Jungleland site is expected to become a regional center for cultural events when it opens next October.

Nonprofit groups can apply for a free license to sell collectibles sporting a Civic Arts Plaza logo and graphic. Those selected will be responsible for developing their own products, Mitze said.

If needed, a member of the Souvenir Programs and Mementos Committee can help organizations choose an item, which could include posters, coffee mugs, tote bags, pins, calendars and patches, Mitze said. Other suggestions will be considered by the committee.

“It’s one of our ways of involving the community in what promises to be an important event,” Mitze said.
