Irvine’s Foxon Knocks Off USC’s Peterson

IRVINE — UC Irvine sophomore Julian Foxon upset eighth-seeded Adam Peterson of USC, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0, when Peterson, a sophomore from Orange, retired in the third set of their second-round match in the ITA Southern California Men’s Tennis regionals Thursday at Irvine.
Chris Tontz, Fred Bach and Marc-Andre Tardif also won second-round singles matches for the Anteaters.
Arizona State’s Sargis Sargasian, the top-seeded player, and third-seeded Robert Janecek of UCLA both advanced to the third round. Second-seeded Sebastian LeBlanc of UCLA withdrew because of an injury and fourth-seeded Jon Leach of USC withdrew.
