SUNLAND — Forest rangers found two hand grenades near Big Tujunga Canyon Road in Angeles National Forest on Friday, and the road was closed until explosive experts could determine if they were live, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman said.
The sheriff’s arson-explosive unit was at the scene Friday night, but had not determined whether or not the grenades were real, spokesman Rich Erickson said.
A forestry worker found the first grenade about 7 p.m. just off Big Tujunga Canyon Road near Stoney Vale Road, about three miles north of Sunland, Erickson said.
Later, forest rangers found another grenade in the same area, Erickson said.
“We suspect that they fell off a truck,” Erickson said.
