Woman in Wheelchair Shoots Robber to Death
A 92-year-old woman in a wheelchair shot and killed a teen-ager who was trying to rob her in her home, police said.
The state’s attorney’s office ruled that the shooting was justified and said no charges would be filed against Bessie Jones.
The intruder, who was not immediately identified, was pushing Jones around in her wheelchair and thought she was reaching for cash and jewelry when she pulled a gun out of a dresser drawer and shot him in the throat, police said.
Neighbors said Jones had been the victim of at least one other break-in during the past month.
