VAN NUYS : Erik Menendez Still in Hospital; Trial on Hold
The Menendez brothers’ murder trial was postponed yet again Wednesday because Erik Menendez remained hospitalized.
The younger Menendez brother, taken last Friday to the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center with abdominal pains, was in good condition Wednesday, according to a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, which operates the jail.
Earlier this week, Erik Menendez’s lawyer, Leslie Abramson, said he had bruised his kidneys in an accidental fall and that doctors discovered a blood clot.
Because of his hospitalization, there has been no testimony this week in the trial in Van Nuys Superior Court. All county courts will be closed today for Veterans Day, so testimony is not due to resume until Friday.
Erik Menendez, 22, and Lyle Menendez, 25, are charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 20, 1989, shotgun slayings of their parents, Jose Menendez, 45, a wealthy entertainment executive, and Kitty Menendez, 47, in the family’s Beverly Hills mansion.
