Cypress School District to Auction Surplus Equipment

Share

The Cypress School District on Nov. 20 will auction two school buses that are each more than a decade old, a Jeep-type vehicle at least 30 years old and an obsolete lawn mower among other outdated items in an effort to add to its coffers. The public auction will be at 10 a.m. in the district’s maintenance yard, at 9470 Moody St.

District officials have declared a 1978 gasoline-driven bus and a 1979 diesel bus unsafe to transport children. They said the Jeep-type vehicle is 30 to 50 years old and is not used because it is in poor condition and parts are no longer available.

Other items that the school district no longer uses and which have accumulated over the past 10 years also will be on the auction block. They include black and white television sets, copying machines, chairs, audio and video equipment, kitchen and gardening equipment and a telephone system.

Officials hope to raise between $10,000 and $15,000 from the auction. The money will be put in the district’s general fund.

In addition to the auction, thousands of books and firewood will be given away.
