Sony Security Guards Laid Off: The guards at Sony Pictures Entertainment were said to be planning a sickout today after being notified that they will be laid off Dec. 3 as part of a cost-cutting program. The guards are protesting Sony’s decision to replace them with a private security firm, with only one week’s severance pay. Sony employs about 60 guards. The Culver City-based company, which is owned by Japan’s Sony Corp., would not comment.
