Restaurant’s ‘Table Lottery’ Will Raise Money for Area Fire Victims

The Place Across From the Hotel Laguna has come up with an unusual way to raise money for area fire victims. Three times each day, through at least the end of this month, a table number will be chosen at random and the amount of the check will be donated to a fire relief fund operated by the Laguna Beach Hospitality Assn. and Chamber of Commerce, said restaurant owner Tony Bagatta. He calls it a table lottery.

If you don’t feel like cooking on Thanksgiving Day, several area restaurants are again offering to do it for you. Following are just a few of them.

*The Bay Colony restaurant is presenting a New England-style dinner of turkey, roast beef, ham, corn bread stuffing, chestnut stuffing, candied yams, mashed potatoes and parsnips, clams and oysters and an assortment of pies (pumpkin, apple and mincemeat). It’s $14.95 for adults and $9.95 for children under 12; served from noon to 9 p.m. 115 N. Harbor Blvd., La Habra. (714) 525-8288.

*The Disneyland Hotel will play host to characters including the Three Little Pigs, Chip ‘n Dale and the Big Bad Wolf at a Thanksgiving Day dinner from noon to 7 p.m. The all-you-can-eat buffet includes roasted turkey, glazed ham, carved roast beef, salads, seasonal fruit, vegetables and an assortment of desserts. $34.50 for adults, $12.50 for children ages 3 to 11, and $3 for children under 3. 1150 W. Parties of four or more who want to enjoy a whole roasted turkey and take home the leftovers can dine at the hotel’s Caffe Villa Verde from 1 to 9 p.m. The meal includes apple and sage dressing, giblet gravy and cranberry sauce, maple candied sweet potatoes, whipped potatoes, sugar snap peas sauteed with toasted almonds, creamed corn and a choice of dessert. *The Dana Point Resort is planning a Thanksgiving buffet from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. that includes assorted salads, cheeses and cold seafood (poached gulf shrimp and crab claws), roast turkey with giblet gravy, honey-glazed ham with cranberry-orange relish, roast filet of beef with Dijon basil sauce, and pork schnitzel with capers and lemon. *Slade’s Harvest Restaurant & Bar is offering a $19.95 per person dinner. It includes wild autumn greens with hazelnut vinaigrette, free-range Diestal Ranch turkey with fresh sage or chestnut and apple stuffing, whipped potatoes, giblets and gravy, wild mushroom and wild rice bisque, raspberry and cranberry relish, sweet potato pecan pie or pumpkin cheesecake and unlimited champagne. (Slades, by the way, has hired Guy Sockrider as chef de cuisine. Sockrider is the former executive chef at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Anaheim and at Monique in Laguna Beach.)

*John Dominis is celebrating Thanksgiving Day with a holiday menu served from 2 to 8 p.m. Among the courses are an appetizer of pumpkin ravioli with sage butter and Parmesan cheese, and a lobster bisque. Entrees--served with creamed corn, mashed and sweet potatoes and vegetables--include roast turkey with walnut, apple and grape stuffing and onion leek green pepper gravy, and roasted New York sirloin with horseradish sauce.
